Getting to Know Me!
Welcome! My Name is Kelly, and I am currently seeking my Secondary English Education degree. I grew up practically idolizing my ELA teachers and having an intense love for learning, so it's no surprise that this is where I landed. I'm stepping into high school classrooms for the first time this semester as a "professional," and while it has been a bit overwhelming at times (I forgot how much high schoolers loved to talk🙀), I am hopeful for the future of my career as both a student teacher and a solo ELA teacher. Education is a dynamic, exciting field that is guaranteed to keep you on your toes, so I look forward to collecting some tools this semester to help me run a successful group of young readers and inquirers.
An image that I think summarizes me as both a professional and an individual was actually created for a previous blog assignment (from Candance herself)! It is a "literacy selfie" that encapsulates who I am as a reader and thinker, what inspires me to keep reading and writing, and the values that literature has instilled within me.
I am aware that not every adolescent was as interested in reading and discussing their current read as I was, but I hope that by giving students a chance to explore their reading interests and have access to diverse texts, they will be able to connect with an author's writing and messaging. Reading comprehension skills are also vital in nearly every career field, so I hope that my teaching can make a lifelong difference in students' lives. Ambitious, I know. 😉

ReplyDeleteHey Kelly!
ReplyDeleteLike yourself, the only reason I'm here is because I had amazing ELA teachers as an adolescent. Without them, middle and high school would have been so much more challenging. If I can help just a few student come to know themselves better like my favorite teachers did with me, I'll be a happy dude.
And yep, students love to talk. I was pretty quiet (for the most part) during high school so it's been a bit of a shock. But day by day we'll get better and our toolbox of skills will continue to expand.
Cheers!

Hi Kelly!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling you are going to be an amazing ELA teacher! Your choices in literature is about the same as mine! I am excited I got to meet you in class and I am looking forward to reading more in your blog!
Hey Kelly!
ReplyDeleteI found it funny that you mentioned the fact that the high schoolers are very talkative...It makes me feel bad for my old high school teachers if I was a chatterbox in high school!

Kelly, I love seeing your literacy selfie collage pop up here. I agree that it is a powerful piece to illustrate how literature has influenced us in our past and onward.
